Abstract

Background: non melanoma cutaneous cancer includes basal cell carcinoma and squamous cells one, is the most frequent type of malignant neoplasia in the man. Every year are reported between two and three million in the world of new cases and is considered that 66 000 people die for this kind of disease. Objective: to determine the clinical and histopathologic characteristics of non melanoma cutaneous cancer. Method: a cross-sectional descriptive study in a group of patients with non melanoma cutaneous cancer attended in the consultation of Dermatology at the Military Hospital of Camagüey, from January 2007 to December 2008, constituted the universe 89 patients, the probabilistic sample conformed by 47 patients chosen by the simple random method, inclusion and exclusion criteria were considered for the investigation. The primary source of the data constituted the patient's interview, the physical exam, and the histological result. To all the sick persons were carried out the clinical diagnosis and a biopsy by elliptic excision of the lesion were practiced. The clinical diagnosis with the histopathologic one was related. Results: a discreet prevalence in patients of the female sex and a bigger frequency in the age group from 60 to 80 years existed; as well as the white race. The most frequent localizations were the face, the neck and thorax. Conclusions: basal carcinoma showed to be the most frequent type of non melanoma cutaneous cancer; in the affected people was proven a marked clinical-histopathologic coincidence.
