Abstract

Background: in the world an upward tendency in the occurrence of sexually transmitted infections, included HIV/AIDS is observed, at the expense of a displacement of sexual intercourses to more and more early ages. Objective: Method: a quanti- qualitative, cross-sectional, experimental intervention study was conducted, from September 2007 to March 2008. The universe was constituted by 210 students of second year. A sample of 180 students selected through a simple random sampling to those were applied a questionnaire. Results: the age group of 36-45 years prevailed and bigger incidence of the female sex. A low knowledge level on STI/HIV/AIDS and educational actions at the beginning of the educational intervention was evidenced and at the end, satisfactory levels were reached. Conclusions: After applying the intervention a significant increase of knowledge was achieved in the students on STI/HIV/AIDS, for what the intervention was considered effective.
