Abstract

Background: brain-vascular diseases constitute by their great incidence in population a health problem; it is indispensable a diagnosis and treatment for this type of affections that cause disabled neurological sequels that affect the quality of life. Objective: to describe the anatomy of anterior choroidal and posterior communicating arterial systems. Method: a bibliographical review with a total of 24 references was conducted. Conclusions: it was verified that most of authors coincide in a general pattern, with anatomical variants in both arterial systems as for origin, presentation forms, course, ending, branches and irrigation territories that should be take into account in the medical practice.
