Abstract

Background: although there are many surgical procedures to treat carpal scaphoid pseudoarthrosis, none reports satisfactory results; what is a challenge for the surgeon. Objective: to evaluate the results of tendinous interposition arthroplasty in carpal scaphoid pseudoarthrosis. Method: a prospective and descriptive study in patients with the said affection was conducted, treated at Dr. Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja University Military Hospital in Camagüey from November 2003 to October 2010. The universe was constituted by 34 patients, non probabilistic sampling composed of 28 patients. The study variables were: age, sex, postoperative rehabilitation time and more frequent complications. Results: The age group from 35 to 44 years with a 42,8 % prevailed; male sex was the most affected to a 78,5 %; postoperative rehabilitation time occurred from 4 to 12 weeks for a 64,2 %; and results of arthroplasty were excellent and good in a 78,7 % of the total of patients operated. Conclusions: tendinous interposition arthroplasty is an option in the treatment of carpal scaphoid pseudoarthrosis.
