Abstract

QUESADA LEYVA, Lidyce; LEON RAMENTOL, Cira Cecilia; BETANCOURT BETHENCOURT, José  and  NICOLAU PESTANA, Elizabet. Theoretical and practical facts about health electric bioimpedance. AMC [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.5, pp. 565-578. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: electric bioimpedance is a technique used to measure the body composition humans have. It is based on the body’s capacity to conduct electricity. It allows to measure bioelectrical parameters in biological systems. Objective: to describe practical and theoretical elements about electric bioimpedance that permit different health specialists to know its practical usage for health care and research. Methods: a literature search was carried out in database platforms of the web on Cuban health information INFOMED, among them, EBSCOhost, PubMed, Clinical Key and SciELO. Electric bioimpedance in health and health electric bioimpedance were the descriptors used. Conclusions: the use of electric impedance for the analysis of the body composition is presented as a non-invasive technique of great precision, which in a short period of time allows obtaining reliable data for the assessment of hydration and nutrition states either in healthy or ill people due to different causes.

Keywords : ELECTRIC IMPEDANCE; BODY COMPOSITION; BODY MASS INDEX; MEDICAL ASSISTANCE; REVIEW LITERATURE AS TOPIC.
