Abstract

Background: aging is a physiologic process that causes characteristic changes and geriatric alterations which can lead to fragility. Objective: to characterize fragility in the elderly population from to Pedro Borrás Astorga clinic. Methods: a descriptive and transversal study was conducted from September to November, 2016. The study sample was composed of 112 elderly fragile patients from that area, who met the inclusion criteria, and the results were reflected in charts and graphics for their best understanding. Results: female sex and 65 over age group, as well as group III prevailed. In relation to the geriatric affectations the abuse of medicines prevailed, mainly in females. Regarding the family’s role in fragile elderly adults, functional families prevailed. Conclusions: there was a prevalence of fragile elderly adults with 65 years and more, mainly females. Group III, the abuse of medicines as a geriatric affectation, as well as the family functionality prevailed in these patients.
