Abstract

Background:

the temporomandibular disorders are the set of symptoms and signs that causes dental, muscular and articular alterations in the stomatognatic system due to risk factors like dental occlusion.

Objective:

to characterize dental occlusion in patients with temporomandibular disorders.

Methods:

a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in provincial dental occlusion and temporomandibular dysfunction consulting room of Camagüey from January to July 2016; from a universe of 85 patients diagnosed with temporomandibular disorders, 43 patients were chosen as a sample by means of a no probabilistic sampling.

Results:

the increased overjet and overbite as well as the before folded bite was predominated, the frequents molars relationship was the molars neutrocclusion, the occlusal interference stood out in the size of working for the laterality movement, it was seen as a lateral function the one led by the canine tooth.

Conclusions:

the clinical exam allowed to characterize the variables of dental occlusion in relation to the temporomandibular disorders.
