Abstract

VAZQUEZ-LLANOS, Aimee; DIAZ-CAMPOS, Norbis  and  PEREZ-RONDON, Yudania. Psychosocial diagnosis for the prevention of cancer in primary health care. AMC [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.5, pp.592-603.  Epub Oct 01, 2019. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background:

cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with serious psychological, family and social implications. Its prevention implies a challenge that is necessary to take into account all the dimensions of the disease, fundamentally its psychological and social aspect.

Objective:

to describe the results of the psychosocial diagnosis carried out for the prevention of cancer.

Methods:

a quantitative-qualitative, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out for the diagnosis of cancer prevention in the 29th office of the San Juan de Dios People's Council, from a psychosocial perspective. The universe consisted of 18 registered cases with a diagnosis of cancer, to which are added their families, and 27 families designated by the Basic Health Team as risk families. Psychologists, doctors and oncology specialists were also interviewed.

Results:

there were deficiencies in the prevention actions that are carried out in the community and in the integral care of the oncological patient and his family, from a psychosocial approach.

Conclusions:

the diagnosis revealed the need for home psychological care and the impact that psychosocial interventions can have in the community context for the prevention of cancer.
