Abstract
VIZOSO PARRA, Ángel et al. Estudio genotóxico in vitro e in vivo del extracto fluido de cassia grandis L. Y el gel de aloe vera L. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2000, vol.5, n.3, pp.91-96. ISSN 1028-4796.
In order to know the possible mutagenic activity of the fluid extract of Cassia grandis L. and of Aloe vera L. gel that may cause some adverse effect on beign used in phytotherapy, a toxicogenetic study was conducted by using 2 systems of short-term tests, one in vivo and the another in vitro: the Aspergillus nidulans D-30 model that detects primary DNA damage and the micronucleus induction test in mouse bone marrow, which determines clastogenic and aneugenic damage. Concentrations of fluid extract of Cassia grandis L from 0.067 to 1,675 mg of total solids/mL and concentrations of Aloe vera L. gel from 0,09 to 1,00 mg of total solids/mL were evaluated in the in vitro test with Aspergillus nidulans D-30 fungus (mitotic segregation). Doses of 500, l000 and 2 000 mg/kg of body weight were assayed for Cassia grandis L. and for Aloe vera L. gel in the in vivo micronucleus induction assay. None of the 2 phytodrugs produced either cellular damage or genotoxic activity in the genotoxic assays.
