Abstract

SANCHEZ GOVIN, Ester; PEREZ LAMAS, Ana María; CHAVEZ FIGUEREDO, Diosothys  and  RODRIGUEZ FERRADA, Carlos Alberto. Pharmacognostic characterization of Salvia officinalis L. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.

The obtention of quality plant drugs that may be used as herbal drugs or raw materials for making pharmaceutical forms is the thematic of this research, whereas its most important objective is the establishment of quality specifications, in this case of Salvia officinalis L., cultivated in ferriferous red hydrated soil. The following quality indexes were determined in batches from "Dr. Juan Tomás Roig" Experimental Station of Medicinal Plants: humidity, total ashes, soluble substances and essential oils. Micro- and macro morphological descriptions of the species were made, the conditions for the optimum drying were established, a chromatographic profile was standardized for flavonoid compounds and another for essential oils by thin layer chromatography. Besides, the storage time was determined in different containers in a conservation experiment during a year and it was found that the drug maintained their organoleptic characteristics for 10 months.

Keywords : Salvia offcinalis L.,; pharmacognostic characterization..
