Abstract

NUNEZ FIGUEREDO, Yanier et al. Effect of MVZ on arthritis induced by complete Freund's adjuvant and tolerance assay. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.

The antiarthritic effect of oily ginger solution (MVZ), induced by subplantar administration of Freund's complete adjuvant in rats, was evaluated. The animals were subjected to different treatments and the inflammation percentage was determined. A tolerance assay was also made with albinic mice that were put on a 4-hour fasting and later were administered 1 mL/20 g of MVZ by oral route. The toxic symptoms were registered and the macroscopic examination of the main organs was made at the end of the study. The MVZ at the assayed doses inhibited the induced inflammation. The dose of 6,5 mL/kg of the assay substance 30 days after the administration of the complete Freund's adjuvant presented an antiinflammatory effect higher than that showed by tenoxicam at doses of 2,5 mg/kg. In the tolerance assay carried out, the MVZ did not produce toxicity signs, mortality, or macroscopic alterations of the main organs.

Keywords : MVZ; arthritis; inflammation; tolerance assay; complete Freund's adjuvant.
