Abstract

In multipurpose intensive care units patients with medical and surgical diagnoses are received, 35% of these are surgical. In high-risk surgical patients, the need for intensive care is indisputable, due to the high probability of death. The objective of the research was to characterize the behavior of pediatric surgical patients who entered the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in 2017. The sample consisted of 95 surgical patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Granma in 2017. a total of 347 operated. The most prevalent age group was 5 to 14 years (50.5%), the male sex (56.8%), a stay less than 7 days (90.5%). On the other hand, the municipality that most insisted was Río Cauto (21.05%), the most prevalent reason for admission was acute appendicitis with peritonitis (25.2%).
