Abstract

MEIRELES OCHOA., Madeline Yoanis et al. Educational intervention to enhance knowledge about infertility. CMF- 8. Polyclinic March 13. Bayamo 2018 - 2019. Multimed [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.1, pp.84-101. ISSN 1028-4818.

Infertility is the inability to conceive pregnancy after a period of time equal to or greater than 12 months of having regular sexual intercourse without any contraceptive method. This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating the result of the application of an educational program to enhance infertility knowledge. A quasi-experimental pre-test study - post-test with a single group type educational intervention was carried out in the Family Medical Office- 8 of the University Polyclinic March 13, 2018-2019. A probabilistic sample of 31 patients was studied from 82 patients of reproductive age selected by the systematic method. The PROCEDE-PRECEDE method was used to determine the action targets of the educational program. The average age of the patients was 18-48 years. The female sex predominated (61.29%), the university educational level (57.8%). 87.09% had a single civil status, (67.74%) lived in an extended family, 93.54% were patients in the category of workers, (/77.41%) lived in functional families while (54.83%) formed part of a family with average economic income. The most referred source of information was television (93.54%) and friendships (83.87%). The level of knowledge rose from 35.48% to 90.32% with the application of the educational program. The difference in proportions test established a significant difference between the level of knowledge between the two moments, so the educational program managed to modify the level of knowledge in a statistically significant way.
