Abstract

Introduction:

Cervical cancer is a health problem that makes the education of women necessary for early diagnosis necessary.

Objective:

To design an educational intervention aimed at raising the preparation on the subject in women aged 25 to 65 years of the Office No. 9 belonging to the University Polyclinic “Omar Ranedo Pubillones”.

Method:

Between April 2018 and June 2019, a prospective study, of the educational intervention type, was carried out. The universe was the total number of women included in the age range indicated and 250 intentionally selected in the study. Their level of information on the subject was investigated before and after applying the educational intervention.

Results:

Before the implementation of the designed educational intervention, 58.4% of the women expressed an insufficient level of information regarding cervical cancer and this proportion decreased to 16.8% after applying it, which meant a reduction in 24.7% of women with theoretical deficits regarding the issue. The percentage that increased their preparation was 50.0% (p<0.05), which showed the advantage of implementing the educational intervention that was designed.

Conclusions:

The educational intervention aimed at the preparation of women regarding cervical cancer in the University Polyclinic “Omar Ranedo Pubillones” enabled the acquisition of knowledge regarding the subject and changes in attitudes aimed at preventing this disease.
