Abstract

RUIZ SILVA, María Dolores et al. Educational program on persistent diarrhea for infant mothers. MEDISAN [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.1. ISSN 1029-3019.

A study of educational intervention was conducted in 24 infant mothers belonging to the Basic Working Group No 3 of the "Josué País García" University Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba from December, 2005 to February, 2006, with the purpose of deepening their knowledge of persistent diarrheic disease in newborns, thus creating an educational program that would be applied in 5 class sessions. Among the main analyzed variables are age, occupation, educational status and others relating to the level of knowledge, such as approaches to identify a persistent diarrhea and their causes, signs of dehydration in the infant, preparation forms of oral rehydration salts and conduct to observe at home until arriving at the hospital. As statistical validation test Mc Nemar test was used with a 99% confidence. When concluding the intervention, 91,6% of mothers had acquired the appropriate knowledge of such an important health topic.
