A group educational intervention was carried out from December, 2006 to June, 2007 to increase the knowledge on oral health in 50 fifth grade students of "Lidia Doce Sánchez" Primary School , belonging to the health area of the Dentistry Department from "Camilo Torres Restrepo" Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, for which an educational program named "Bella Sonrisa" was applied that included educational, affective and participative techniques, as well as didactic games. The differences observed before and after the intervention, according to results of the Mc Nemar statistical test and of the variation coefficient, were highly significant. Seven months later, when evaluating again the knowledge on oral health, it was found that they had increased favorably in 98% of the scholars and that the educational action demonstrated to be effective, so that it could be carried out in other institutions of the primary teaching in the territory.
