Abstract

MARTINEZ FONTANILLES, Ana María  and  RODRIGUEZ VERNAL, Yaritza. Familiy impact of a school for parents of children with disabilities. MEDISAN [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.5, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1029-3019.

An educational intervention was performed in 27 parents of disabled children in Julio Antonio Mella municipality of Santiago de Cuba province, from January to April 2008, to identify those factors of health services affecting quality of care provided to them. According to parents, one of the main problems was that health professionals did not give them enough information about the disease of their children. After identifying this difficulty, a "School for parents of children with disabilities" was built in order to provide them updated information. Despite the little experience in the development of this therapy, after being educated on the subject, parents felt more secure and confident in an atmosphere of solidarity between all patients, their families and the medical team.

Keywords : parents; health education; disabled children; care to disabled children; primary health care.
