Abstract
TORRALBAS REVERON, Fredy Eladio and MACHIN RODRIGUEZ, Jorge Carlos. Arterial aneurysms and dissections: Different, but not exactly exclusive concepts. MEDISAN [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.6, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1029-3019.
The origin of the terms aneurysm, dissection and dissecting aneurysm is analyzed synthetically and from a historical perspective, while setting out the main arguments for not considering them just exclusive. It is concluded that although it should be accepted that there may be dissections in presence or absence of aneurysms and dissecting aneurysms, with dissection or without it, it is preferable to recognize them with the names of aneurysm or dissection, as appropriate. For situations where they are combined, it is suggested to introduce new words to clarify their cause-effect relationship and contribute to gauge their severity.
Keywords : aneurysm; dissection; dissecting aneurysm.
