Abstract

A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out on the preliminary experience with a program of informational literacy applied in "Saturnino Lora" Teaching Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from February, 2009 to the same month of 2010, with the aim of evaluating the informational competences of the health professionals to have access to the scientific and medical information in the institution, to identify their learning necessities and to train them on the base of the obtained results. The benefits of the delivered courses were evaluated in 8 services of different specialties, in which 143 health professionals participated, and it could be confirmed that the delivered instructions allowed to modify the level of knowledge on the search of documents, as they were able to apply the different acquired abilities.
