Abstract
Progress of 60-year-old and over patients with chronic renal failure in peritoneal dialysis. MEDISAN [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.8, pp. 2031-2038. ISSN 1029-3019.
A descriptive and cross-sectional study in 72 patients over 60 years old treated with peritoneal dialysis in the Nephrology Service at the ¨Saturnino Lora¨ Provincial Clinical-surgical Teaching Hospital from Santiago de Cuba was carried out from January, 2006 to December, 2007 in order to describe their clinical course. Among the main results, diabetes mellitus was the first outstanding cause related to chronic renal failure with a mean age and age group predominance of 65, 4 and 60-69 years, respectively. Each patient had more than one comobirdity, in which hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy constituted a priority, while 7 out of 15 serial patients died due to cardiovascular complications.
