Abstract

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 30 patients with leptospirosis, admitted to "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital of Santiago de Cuba during 2007, in order to characterize them according to clinical epidemiological and microbiological variables. Male sex and cases coming from Segundo Frente municipality prevailed in the series. Most patients had occupational risk and more than half reported livestock housing. The most frequent symptoms were fever, arthralgia and headache, while the seroprevalence of antibodies to leptospira was of 8,5%.
