Abstract
ACOSTA MENDOZA, Diana Rosa; MAYOR GUERRA, Esther; CASTILLO ASENSIO, Ileana and DIAZ FERRER, Lisette. Using biomedical databases at the Library of the Medical College No. 1 of Santiago de Cuba. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.1, pp. 82-86. ISSN 1029-3019.
A descriptive and cross-sectional study on the use of biomedical databases at the library of the Medical College No.1 of Santiago de Cuba was conducted from February to March 2009. From March 9th to 14th, 138 users that requested services of the navigation room were selected: literature search, antivirus updating and references of the available contents on the intranet, because that was the busiest week of the room. Only 13,8% had received training courses for access to those sources, 70,0% were unaware of the existence of them, and 81,9% were not using them. Among the main identified problems were a faulty connection, not having been trained by the librarians and not having enough time on the computer. It was recommended information literacy courses so that users are able to comply by themselves with their demands of information in biomedicine.
