Abstract

VALLEJO PORTUONDO, Guillermo. Learning from the perspective of the professional motivation and attitudes. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.3, pp.363-368. ISSN 1029-3019.

Theoretical elements inherent to the motivation in general and the professional one in particular were reviewed and analyzed with a view to determining the implication of the latter on academic performance of medical students, but at the same time the relationship between motivation and attitudes is explored, as well as their importance in the process of acquiring knowledge. The author states two categories for the motivation: one with respect to the profession and another as a result of its interaction with the attitudes, linked to the success or failure in studies. On the basis of the information obtained it follows that attitudes influence the quality of learning and is necessary to pay more attention to this component of personality when being faced with school failure.

Keywords : student; medical university; learning; professional motivation; attitudes; academic performance; interfering attitudes; deferential attitudes.
