Abstract

An exhaustive review and update on the teaching care visit was carried out as one of the education modalities at work in the teaching-learning process of higher medical education, on the basis of the experience acquired by the authors of this article in health care during the hospitalization and observations made in the teaching categorization exercises over two decades in Santiago de Cuba province. This article deals with the importance of the teaching care visit, teaching care objectives, relation to clinical method, main characteristics, and stage development. It was concluded that the aforementioned care visit constitutes the primary teaching activity for the post-and pre-graduate personnel training, taking into account the large spectrum of communicative possibilities, acquisition and consolidation of skills, strengthening of values, performance and competence, as well as varieties of interpersonal relationships, and the application of didactical principles to Medicine.
