Abstract

MACHIN RODRIGUEZ, Jorge Carlos; CASTILLO MARTINEZ, José Manuel  and  MARTINEZ MUNIZ, Juan Oscar. Algorithm for the diagnosis of acute mediastinitis in cardiovascular surgery. MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.3, pp. 483-488. ISSN 1029-3019.

In cardiovascular surgery acute mediastinitis is a complication not as frequent as feared for its high mortality whose diagnosis is primarily clinical and should be early established, because the therapeutic success depends on that. Confirmation of clinical suspicion will only be early, when taking into account the initial signs and symptoms, for which it is considered to be extremely useful to have a guide or algorithm to get information and reduce the time required for this. An algorithm, easy to apply, developed at the Cardiology Center of Santiago de Cuba is presented, which reduced the time of preoperative diagnosis and can be applied in the rest of the country.

Keywords : acute mediastinitis; cardiovascular surgery; diagnosis; algorithm; Cardiology Center.
