Abstract
DELGADO CORREA, Wilkie. The 1962 Reform of Higher Education in Cuba and its foundational character in the medical sciences. MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.4, pp. 638-643. ISSN 1029-3019.
Rationale for the proclamation of the Law of the Reform of Higher Education in Cuba and the main background related to the education are briefly stated, which constituted milestones in the actions taken by the Cuban Revolution. Similarly, foundational character in the medical sciences is specifically addressed, when referring to the analysis on the situation of public health in this country and human capital training, as well as general characteristics of the curricula of medicine and stomatology careers and the strategy of developing new colleges in Oriente and Las Villas provinces. Finally, an assessment of the meaning of that reform is made, and the results achieved from the first decade to the present are showed.
