Abstract

PRADERE PENSADO, Juan Carlos; CHAO GONZALEZ, Susana; GARCIA GOMEZ, Alberto  and  GUTIERREZ GUTIERREZ, Luisa. Ethical considerations on health care in disaster situations . MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.8, pp.1295-1305. ISSN 1029-3019.

In a disaster situation a great number of injured occurs, who are treated according to the rule of "achieving the best for the majority"; but when applied, a group of patients is deprived of their rights (autonomy) and physicians assisting them do not meet the precept of charity. With the help of experts committees for ethical issues, standards have been developed to try to shape the aforementioned principle. The information defined in this paper would be useful for civil and military physicians, so they can adequately face a disaster and try to bring order to chaos.

Keywords : medical ethics; disaster; triage; mass casualty; emergencies; influenza.
