Abstract

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in 146 children with intestinal parasitism as a representative sample of 227 patients at age 0-14 years, belonging to the Sector 8, Cartanal parish, Miranda State, of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from 2007 to 2008, in order to characterize them according to variates of interest. In the series the age group of 0 to 4 years, male sex and Giardia lamblia as the most frequent parasite predominated, as well as anemia, persistent diarrhea and acute diarrheal syndrome as the most common complications. To resolve this problem, it was recommended to increase health education activities in the population, thus promoting healthy habits and lifestyles
