Abstract

A descriptive and cross sectional study of 32 children between 0-9 years discharged from the Service of Poptún Pediatrics Hospital, in Guatemala was carried out from January to October, 2012, to characterize the children malnutrition according to variables of interest for the investigation. Female sex (56.2%), the age group 1-4 (53.0%) and the severe malnutrition prevailed in the series. The most frequent associated diseases were the infectious ones (62.8%) and as basic cause of higher lethality the generalized sepsis prevailed. The hospital stay was of 5.8 days, which overcame what is regulated in the service which is of 3-4 days
