Abstract

An educational intervention study in Mar Verde Penitentiary Center in Santiago de Cuba, was carried out from January, 2006 to December, 2007, with the purpose of diminishing the syphilis incidence, for which a group of prisoners that were trained as health promoters for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and human immunodeficiency virus /aids was selected. The results were compared before and after the educational intervention through the McNemar test, aimed at measuring its impact, which was positive due to the syphilis diagnosis decrease, for a rate of 1.1 every 100 inhabitants
