BANDERA RAMOS, Yoandri et al. Prevalence of chronic kidney disease in patients with acquired inmunodeficiency syndrome. MEDISAN [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.8, pp. 1022-1029. ISSN 1029-3019.
An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 93 patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, assisted in "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, was carried out during 2013-2014, in order to estimate the prevalence of the chronic kidney disease, according to the selected clinical epidemiological variables. This disorder prevailed in 21.5% members of the series, without differences between both sexes; more than 50.0% of those who presented kidney damage were over the 45 years. High viral loads (80.0%), low T CD4+ lymphocytic cell count (60.0%) and prevalence of the infection by acquired immunodeficiency virus course time between 6 and 10 years were found. It was concluded that chronic kidney failure prevailed in these patients and had an increment with age
