Abstract

LOPEZ DE CASTRO ALONSO, Adelfa et al. Characterization of bioaesthetic results in prosthetic rehabilitation using an evaluation guide. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.1, pp.106-128. ISSN 1029-3043.

Introduction: the mouth is one of the most distinguishable characteristics of man, as it is an organ of emotional expression that represents communication through the word. Changing the paradigm in the conventional method of aesthetic evaluation is necessary for prosthetic rehabilitation, by incorporating aspects that are considered necessary to integrate rehabilitation into the oral-facial complex, in order to achieve harmony in the face.

Objective: to characterize bioaesthetic results in prosthetic rehabilitation with the use of an evaluation guide.

Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara, from December 2017 to March 2018. The study population was all patients rehabilitated in the Prosthesis Department of this institution, who met the established inclusion criteria; observation was used as a method and questionnaires developed for that purpose were used as an instrument.

Results:

the results were characterized by bioaesthetic parameters categorized as notable and moderate in many of the rehabilitated patients; ideal incisal arch was highlighted during smile analysis, as well as amplitude of the pleasant smile, positive dental standards, and adequate vertical dimension.

Conclusions:

the use of the guide contributed to positive bioaesthetic results in rehabilitated patients.
