Abstract

Introduction:
physical and recreational activity for older adults has been ignored in the programs provided by the institutions that run sports and recreation in Ecuador, since they have not considered the role of active participation of this type of person, as the exercises applied are high-impact, training, high-load aerobics, but do not take into account the age of the participants.
Objective:
to develop a program of physical-recreational exercises for older adults in Época community, Loja city, which allowed to determine the scope of psychological processes, and enjoyment of physical and recreational activity.
Method:
60 adults (35 women and 25 men), aged 65-79, participated.
Results:
the participants in supervised physical exercise programs obtained different psychological benefits, depending on the type of program, which were shown in the Items as follows: satisfied, 27.0% positive; joyful, 36.0%; I have fun, 34.8%; physically well, 25.8%; stimulated, 36.0%; encouraged, 32.40%; happy, 36.0% and self-esteem, 33.0%.
