Abstract

Alcoholic liver cirrhosis is a global health problem due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. For this purpose, databases of PMC (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc), SciELO (https://search.scielo.org) and Clinical Key (https://www.clinicalkey.es), were consulted with the descriptors alcoholic liver cirrhosis in English and Spanish. This article describes the etiology of liver cirrhosis, risk factors, ethanol metabolism with the enzymes involved, and the physiopathology of alcoholic damage.
