Abstract

MACHIN, Anabel et al. Localización de casos y vigilancia de los focos de tuberculosis en Cuba. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1998, vol.36, n.2, pp.137-146. ISSN 0253-1751.

The need for the improvement of the tuberculosis surveillance and monitoring is stressed in this paper because of the increased diagnosis of new cases in the country since 1992. Sources and flows of information on tuberculosis diagnosis and contact research as well as usefulness of Automated Tuberculosis Surveillance System are described. The resulting figures from a trial processing of a set of surveys in 1994 reveales that 78 % of new cases and 29 % of relapses had been bacteriologically confirmed. The Automated Tuberculosis Epidemiological Surveillance System allows both a more timely and precise monitoring of the detection and recording of cases and the tuberculosis foci control. After taking into account the suggested modifications following the trial, the implementation of the system in our services was authorized.
