Abstract

RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Abilio Ubaldo; DELGADO PEREZ, Miriam Lázara  and  DUJARRIC MARTINEZ, María Dolores. Antimicrobial methods: Part I: disinfection of healthcare centers. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2007, vol.45, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3003.

Infection in healthcare centers is a worldwide problem because of its high frequency, fatal consequences and high cost of treatment; there are at present specific activities for prevention and control of such infection. The antimicrobial fighting methods-disinfection and sterilization-act as breaking elements of the infection transmission chain. The present paper described the recommended disinfection/antisepsis methods for the various health levels, being the application of different well-known methods to prevent and control nosocomial infections the main objective. It is important to point out that these activities must be seen with a system approach, where all the stages of the process are interelated in order to achieve successful final outcome.

Keywords : Infection in healthcare centers; nosocomial infections; disinfection..
