Background: culture media are the main tools in Microbiology laboratories; so, testing quality control to the prepared media is vital in order to check whether they comply with their specificities or not and if the methodology used in their preparation is satisfactory. Objective: to show the results of the quality control of the culture media used in environmental monitoring. Methods: the evaluation was done using benchmark strains. The method used is described in the pharmacopoeia. Of all the culture media prepared, the 99, 21 % of the samples in 637 lots were subjected to quality control. Results: in the analyzed samples, the 99, 37 % was approved as ready to use and only the 0, 62 % was not ready due to deficiencies in its preparation. Quality of culture media prepared in the laboratory of microbiology control was tested. Conclusions: quality control of culture media guarantees the validity of trials in which they are employed.
