Abstract

RODRIGUEZ CABRERA, Kenia María et al. Effectiveness of Laser-therapy in the treatment of the dental subluxations due to traumas. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.2, pp. 62-70. ISSN 1561-3194.

Dental traumas and among them, subluxations, are frequently observed in the dentist's outpatient desk, mainly in children and adolescents, thus alternatives to treat the different types of dental traumas are actually prioritized. A longitudinal and prospective study was carried out at "Guama" Teaching Dentist's Clinic in association with "Antonio Briones Montoto" Dentist's Clinic in Pinar del Rio municipality during January 2006-November 2007. A sample of 22 patients divided into two groups (control and study) with conventional and laser treatments, respectively was taken. The sample was comprised of those patients attending to Emergency with the diagnosis of dental subluxation caused by trauma. Data were collected, and frequencies compared by means of X2 at a significance level of á=0.05, and the relative risk and the attributable risk were also calculated. Three-days after treatment those laser treated patients felt relief from pain and at six-days treatment more than the half of the patients showed remission of symptoms, and the number of complications at one-year assessment was lesser in patients under laser therapy than in those who underwent conventional treatments.

Keywords : Laser therapy; traumas; dental subluxation.
