Abstract

Introduction: home admission is a method of a very frequent assistance in the community. Objective: to characterize home admissions at “Hermanos Cruz” Outpatient Clinic, Pinar del Rio from 2006-2010. Material and Method: a cross-sectional and retrospective research was conducted collecting the information from the statistics department of the outpatient clinic. The target group was comprised of 6427 patients in this period, which coincided with the sample of study; data were collected in a table of records and analyzed per year and age bracket, most frequent diseases the patients suffered from, stay and saving percentages to the country, patients referred and death rates during home admissions. Results: respiratory infections 3709 (57,70%), followed by other health disorders 2847 (45,16%) along with pregnancy affections 1478 (22,99%) were the most frequent causes of home admissions. The most affected group of patients was between 19 and 59 years old 3042 (47,05%). During 2009 home admissions prevailed 3024 (67,05%), 38 patients died (0,59%) and 59 were referred (0,91%). Conclusions: home admissions at “Hermanos Cruz” health area showed a high number of patients suffering from respiratory infections, those between 19-59 years old needed more home admission services, year 2009 showed the highest statistics.
