Introduction: cerebrovascular diseases are a global health problem. Our General Medicine residents’ knowledge of the entity is essential to the reduction of morbidity and mortality, which directly influences the prognosis of patients. Objective: To assess General Medicine residents’ level of knowledge of cerebrovascular diseases. Material and methods: The research was conducted at Raul Sanchez Outpatient Polyclinic, in the period from January to February 2015. It is a descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical research. The universe consisted of 41 MGI residents, and the sample of study was randomly selected (28 residents=), of which 53.6% are in the first academic year and 46.4% in the second year of this specialty. Medical ethics are respected. Results: 100% of the residents are in the age group of 25-30 years, first year residents scored average grades between 3.9 and 4.5, while residents reached between 4.3 and second 5.0 ratings were within the estimated confidence interval. Most of them qualified well with 53.6%, prevailing second year residents to 53.8% on first-year residents with 53.3%. Bad ratings were low incidences. Conclusions: an adequate educational intervention strategy would broaden and strengthen the level of knowledge about cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, it should raise awareness of the importance of these issues in the formation and improvement in residents.
