Abstract

Background: The diabetes mellitus is at the present time one of the most pressing problems, closely related with the periodontal illness and factors of risk involved in it. Objective: To identify the factors of risk related with the periodontal illness in diabetic patients older than 30 years old of the area of Zaza del medio Methodology: It was carried out a traverse study in the period from April 2008 to July 2010. The sample belonged to 52 patients. The variables were: factors of direct risk, behavioral, in attention of health; buccal hygiene and level of information. The revised index of buccal hygiene of Russell was applied to determine the grade of buccal hygiene. The pattern of collection of data was used; besides the statistical method presented in charts of distribution of absolute and relative frequencies Results: The covering was the factor of predominant risk with a 100 %, most of them  presented faulty buccal hygiene with a 71.2 % besides the level of knowledge of buccal health  was faulty. Conclusions: The study reported the influence that makes the factors of risk in the worsening of the base illness, in this case, the periodontal affection in diabetic patients.
