Abstract

AMOROS NUNEZ, Magaly  and  SANCHEZ CRUZ, Yoany. Water supply and sewerage service management using geographic information systems. RIHA [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.3, pp. 44-57. ISSN 1680-0338.

Companies devoted to water supply and sewerage service activities usually have a series of drawbacks such as the poor system knowledge due to lack of data about networks and low trustability of the existing information, as well as the poor usage of tools to improve management. It is compulsory to stop deterioration of these systems so as to make them more efficient. The most effective means to achieve that goal is by using tools like geographic information systems (GIS). In this paper, the authors carry out an analysis of the use of GIS in water management companies. They explain GIS design as applied in Aguas de la Habana enterprise, as well as its links with other technologies that can be applied to any other water supply and sewerage company.

Keywords : drawbacks; GIS; management; sewerage; water supply.
