Abstract

CABRERA ESTUPINAN, Eric  and  ALOMA BARCELO, Alejandro. Oil industry fire extinguishing system design. Part 3. Detailed pipe network model. riha [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.3, pp.33-47. ISSN 1680-0338.

This part of the paper shows that only with the creation and implementation of detailed mathematical models for simulating pipe flow, high accuracy complex scenarios within the stages of design or analysis of Fire Extinguishing Systems (SCI) in the petroleum industry can be evaluated. In this regard, the concept of detailed pipe network model is proposed. This concept comprises incorporating all the important network elements to simulate the flow hydrodynamics linked to the thermal radiation models proposed. This is achieved by taking full advantage of many EPANET potentialities (to wit) and MGpoolfire tool. Several applications are listed, highlighting the case of the SCI for the Fuels Distributor Company (ECC) Matanzas.

Keywords : EPANET; detailed pipe network model; thermal radiation; fire extinguishing systems.
