Abstract

The present work not only analizesthe contexts in which Experimental Hydraulics was developed but also the most outstanding contributions of its most important exponents during the XVI and XVII centuries. It is discussed about of the origin and incipient evolution of Hydraulics as a science when observation and experimentation were incorporatedas the basis of scientific reasoning. Besides, the economic, politic and social context of Renaissance is analyzed as well as the life of the main developers of this scientific discipline: Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Evangelista Torricelli, EdmeMariotte y Domenico Guglielmini.
