Abstract

BROWN MANRIQUE, Oscar; GALLARDO BALLAT, Yurisbel; WILLIAMS HARRIOTE, Patricio W.  and  TORRES MARTINEZ, Yuneisi. Ecological flow of Chambas River in Ciego de Avila province. riha [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.1, pp. 58-71. ISSN 1680-0338.

The research was conducted in Chambas river of Ciego de Ávila province in order to determine the ecological flow for which five methodologies were tested: Flows Permanency Curve, Rafael Heras, Tennant, Franquet and Wet Perimeter. The research analyzed a series of 21 years of monthly average flows in the period 1976 to 1986, obtained from the hydrometric station Puente Circuito Norte. The main results showed that the average flow of the river Chambas presented a decreasing trend. From the methods evaluated the Flows Permanency Curve, Rafael Heras and Wet Perimeter proved to be the most appropriate, for the estimate of the ecological flow under the conditions of the fluvial régime of the river Chambas. Among these methods there were not significant statistical differences.

Keywords : river ecosystem; biological resources of the river; flow regime.
