Abstract

MARON DOMINGUEZ, David Ernesto et al. Numerical model of saline intrusion with hydrodynamic dispersion. riha [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.1, pp. 31-43. ISSN 1680-0338.

A numerical model of saline intrusion is presented with hydrodynamic dispersion, meaning that the fluid density is considered as a variable as a function of the salt concentration. The mathematical model is formed by the flow equation and the saltwater equation in the vertical plane. The Method of Finite Elements is applied with linear triangles in the space domain and the Method of Finite Differences in the time domain. The calculation algorithm used in the model is tested against examples reported in the literature. The results show a good adjustment for the contour lines of water levels and salt concentrations.

Keywords : hydrodynamic dispersion; seawater intrusion; finite element method; mathematical model.
