Abstract
RONDON MACIAS, Maylín et al. Use of Moringa oleifera seeds in the wastewater treatment. riha [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.2, pp. 87-101. ISSN 1680-0338.
The treatment of liquid wastes is a key priority in the Cuban healthcare system. The high international prices of the chemical coagulants and the shortage of raw materials to produce it nationally propitiate the employment of vegetable species seeds, as Moringa oleifera, as an alternative in the substitution of chemical coagulants. In this work the residue after oil extraction is used for the wastewater treatment in a municipal plant, determining indicative parameters of the residual water quality. The chemical demand of oxygen obtained was 80 mg/L with a dose of clotting of 69,70 mg/L, reaching a reduction higher than 90%. The content of solids, hardness, alkalinity and phosphorus were analyzed. Environmental, economic and social advantages were obtained with the use of the evaluated product.
