Abstract
VILLACIS RIVADENEIRA, Eugenio and MARRERO DE LEON, Norberto. Drought temporal assessment in Hoya de Guayllabamba province of Pichincha Ecuador. riha [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.2, pp. 114-125. ISSN 1680-0338.
In order to know the behavior of the droughts in the high Andine physicalgeographical environment over 2000 masl, the calculation procedure of the standard precipitation index (SPI) is applied. The procedure is established using periods of analysis within the range of six and twelve months using the data of three different meteorological stations in the Hole of Guayllabamba. The stations are situated along the longitudinal axis of the research area with different heights. As a result the values of the standard precipitation index (SPI) were obtained using as a reference the minus one (-1) value. This value is accepted as the threshold that identifies the occurrences of drought events, and allows to know its severity as well as its duration using as a reference the monthly precipitation data.
