Abstract

FERNANDEZ DE CORDOVA WEBSTER, Carlos Javier et al. Influence of the estimation method on Manning coefficient in natural channels. riha [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.1, pp. 17-31. ISSN 1680-0338.

Manning's n is one of the ways to express the amount of resistance to water movement in natural or artificial channels. This coefficient of resistance to flow is very variable because it depends on a series of factors such as vegetation, irregularity, obstructions, level, discharge, flow regime, among others. In the present work Manning´s n is calculated and estimated using different methods that appear in the literature, applying each one in a cross section of the river Yanuncay in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. At the end, an analysis of the obtained values is made and conclusions are given about them.

Keywords : natural channels; artificial channels; flow; Manning coefficient; Yanuncay river.
