Abstract

PACHECO MOYA, Rafael Miguel; QUIALA ORTIZ, Elio  and  MARTINEZ HERNANDEZ, Ivan. Determination of the curve number parameter in Las Coloradas basin on a GIS environment. riha [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.2, pp. 60-71. ISSN 1680-0338.

In this paper, the curve number in Las Coloradas basin is automatically determined. The curve number is a hydrological parameter used by the US Soil Conservation Service method for the estimation of surface runoff in watersheds. The procedure is based on the use of the Geographic Information System (GIS) ArcView 3.3, which allows working with data of very diverse nature that are in the same geographical location. The generation of regional curve number maps is performed by the application of map overlay arithmetic operations and criteria from the different layers of information on which the SCS curve number method depends (type, land use, hydrological condition and treatment).

Keywords : surface runoff; curve number parameter; US Soil Conservation Service; Geographic Information System.
